Koistinen & Nyberg

Nyberg and Koistinen’s work in Eslöv is a masterpiece in spatial sequence, masonry detailing and applied research. This extensive complex of buildings sprawls on its site, not in an attempt at composition, but more to pragmatically define program while simultaneously creating a sequence of compression and release. Courtyard buildings of golden brick slip and overlap to form the various wings for a nursing home for the mentally disabled. The first building for the complex has been demolished while the remaining structures are subverted by pitched roofs, closed off courtyards, and decay from lack of proper maintenance.
