Lewerentz & Nyberg

Lewerentz and Nyberg’s design for Växjö Cathedral was a combination of Lewerentz’s expertise in solving the program and Nyberg’s tendency to deal only with primary forms. In the project description is was referred to as a ‘formidable castle for both the confident and unconfident.’ The introverted dual-shelled cylindrical concrete building was to ascend upwards to be pierced at the roof allowing light to shower and refract off the white concrete walls down to its stamped earthen floor, themes that were realized in other forms at the Chapel in Höör.
